October seemed to pass by rather quickly in my opinion. It was fantastic being able to get outside to enjoy the fall weather for most of the month, and having Social Thinkers, Kickboxing, and Music with Mr. Trent kept us busy.
Thank you to the parent volunteers for Sunshine Trolley tour-it was a beautiful day to see the city.
And a big thank you (a few days early) to the pumpkin carving and cookie decorating volunteers. We appreciate you spending time in our classroom. Your extra hands make these activities a huge success.
Our renovations are almost complete. The drywaller/painter is finishing on Thursday, the electrician is coming on Friday morning, so with any luck we will be back into the toddler room for Monday October 26th!! It has all worked out and we are thankful for Jake’s Drywall, Jim’s Electric and Mother Nature for all working together to get this done. The toddlers have been such troopers adapting to their main classroom space, sleeping through the afternoon noise. I am thrilled to be getting everyone settled again.
November is shaping to have lots going on as well. I am hopeful that the weather stays warm, and we are still able to sneak outside daily.
The school will be closed on Wednesday November 11th, 2026, to observe Remembrance Day. We will re-open on Thursday November 12th, 2026.
We are working on a Christmas plan for families. The details are being put together this week, and we will pass along the information once it is confirmed. The tentative date is Saturday November 21st. More to come.
All 3 school districts have PD days in November. We are open all that week, except for Wednesday November 11th. Please let us know if your child is home with siblings.
If you have someone new picking up your child, please let the staff know in the morning. This helps us prepare your child for the end of the day pick-up.
Please take a minute to go through your child’s white bags. There are trinkets and miscellaneous items that can go home. There are a few bags that are so full that the children or their neighbors are struggling to get things in and out.
Everyone needs ONLY 1 pair of indoor shoes for the classroom; some are still wearing one pair inside and out and winter/rubber boots cannot be worn inside. It is best that items are labeled to avoid mix ups. It is a great habit for the children to get into by changing their footwear each morning.
Please dress your child properly to go outside, we know the weather changes quickly; however, only 1 jacket is necessary-we will continue to go out as long as we can. It is time for toques and mittens (1 of each)to be added to the white bags, snowpants can wait for the time being. It is important to have walking shoes that stay on your child’s feet. We take them into the park, and they need to have shoes that keep their feet safe.
When the mornings are cooler it is a good idea to have a sweater or hoodie on your child’s hook. The children cannot wear their coats in the classroom because they are bulky and interfere with using the lessons properly. Overall, layers are the best for this unpredictable season. This way they can be comfortable as the weather changes during the day.
We ask that all toys be left at home. We have found that they become a distraction, tend to go missing over the day or are given to friends. It is best these items remain at home to avoid upset.
Lunch boxes are not stored in a refrigerator; it is a good idea to have ice packs to keep sandwiches and dairy products fresh/cold. If anyone is looking for lunch ideas, check some of our previous Instagram posts.
The bathroom bins need to be restocked with winter clothing. Many still have shorts and summer clothes in them. These will be sent home for exchange.
The art folders have not been used much in October. We opted for fresh air and outdoor adventures instead. As the weather cools off and we are inside more, there will be art/crafts to be taken home. Please remember to return them each week so they can be refilled again.
Before cold and cough season gets a hold of us, please be sure to review the sickness policy in your Parent Handbook. All children and staff must be symptom free for 48 hours before returning to school after illness. If you need a copy of the policy, be sure to ask Mrs. Weimer to get one for you.
If anyone needs to do planning for December, we will be open regular hours on Tuesday December 23rd, then closed from December 24th until January 4th, 2027. All elementary schools will dismiss for Christmas break on different days this year, please let us know if your child will be absent December 20-23. Hope this helps with your planning for the month of December.
Have a great month. Please keep an eye on our Instagram account for quick updates.
