MAY 2026
I am hoping that May will bring some much-needed sunshine and warmth so the children can get outside on a consistent basis, get rid of the pesky winter clothes and the even peskier germs and have fun!! I know these are on everyone’s wish list this month. The children have been patiently awaiting getting outside everyday. They did well with the on again, off again days of being inside and out during April. They especially like the end of day pick-up in the playground!
Just a few notes:
-We are closed for Victoria Day on Monday May 18th, 2026.
-Developmental screenings are on-going this month for many of the children. If you have any further questions, we will try our best to answer them. At this point, it is my understanding that anyone who has a summer birthday or September birthday will be screened when the school boards return in the fall. There are different rules for different services which the school board keeps track of. If you received papers to be filled out, please return them promptly.
-The graduation will be set for June18th; more details will be put together soon.
-Please ask a staff member for your extra clothing bag, it may need to be restocked with spring/summer clothes. Many of the bags are empty at this point.
-The white bags on your child’s hooks need to be gone through as well, they only need 1 pair of shoes/slippers and a sun hat. All toques, mittens and treasures can be taken home.
-With us being out and about more in May and the summer months it is VERY important for your child to wear socks and running shoes. Fancy shoes, crocs and open sandals all end up with rocks in them and can cause blisters as well as sore legs.
-Please make sure your child has a labelled hat at school and a bottle of sunscreen. There are some full bottles from last summer in the front entrance so we can check and see if you need some; however, most have expired and were disposed of.
-The school is closed August 3rd-7th this year. We will be open the rest of the summer.
-Mrs. Weimer will be getting new fee sheets to families for summer and fall. Fees are not increasing (hooray), but this will reflect the snack fee that is payable in September.
-Kickboxing will continue each Thursday in May. We are looking into continuing this activity through the summer.
-Social Thinkers will wrap up for the year on May 19th. Mrs. Dola planned to have the chapters finished in time for the spring weather and the children getting outside more often.
-Music will continue Mondays until the end of June, then switch for the summer months. Mr. Roset is finalizing his schedule and will let us know what day he will be coming to see the children.
-Make sure your child has a full and healthy lunch. They have been working up an appetite on their morning walks and when they return at lunch, they are famished!! It is important to give them a good balance of items to fuel their bodies and their brains.
-We aim to leave for walks by 10:30-10:45am, please come on time (9:00am) to school if you want your child to participate. Most days there will NOT BE staff remaining at the school and the doors will be locked. We will leave a phone number to reach the group. Likewise, when we walk in the afternoon the groups return around 2pm. If you need to come earlier to get your child, please let the staff know in the morning so we can keep your child at the school. This will avoid hunting the groups down if they are in a park and save you time in collecting them.
-The older children will be going on the Sunshine Trolley in May. Permission slips will follow once finalized. There is a capacity for 26 on the bus; therefore, we will not be taking parent volunteers so as many children as possible can join us.
-Just for reference, the school closes at 5:15pm. I know there was a little confusion about this last month. Please be considerate to the closing staff and arrive on time.
Please keep checking back as any additional information will be added as needed for the month of May.
Have a wonderful month!
