FEBRUARY 2026
Happy February Everyone!
I am looking forward to a fresh month of sunshine, healthy children and fun!
This particular February is a month we will never see again in our lifetime. It has
· 4 Sundays
· 4 Mondays
· 4 Tuesdays
· 4 Wednesdays
· 4 Thursdays
· 4 Fridays
· 4 Saturdays
This only happens once every 823 years! I hope this Miraclein month is something special because January wasn’t kind to us at all!!
Due to the up/down weather in January we were able to get outside from time to time…and it was WONDERFUL!!! When the weather is frightful (aka windy and freezing cold), the children became accustomed to being inside and doing gross motor activities and movement cd’s to burn off some energy. The teachers have done a fantastic job coming up with fun activities or experiments for the children to fill the void of being outside. I am hoping we can continue to sneak outside this month, it was good for everyone to soak up some sun and get some fresh air.
We are starting February 2026 off with some additional changes to our Montessori staffing family:
Change #1: Miss Danika is expecting her first child in mid-June, and has been put on a medical leave for non-serious pregnancy issues and will be assessed at the end of the month for either return or permanent maternity/medical leave until the baby arrives.
Change #2: Miss Zilkie resigned her position at her new daycare and has returned to us and is working alongside Miss Leith in the toddler room. We are grateful beyond words to have her back!
Change #3: Due to the continued illnesses amongst staff, we have brought Miss Maddy back to the program on a permanent/casual basis. You will be seeing her again everyday.
We sincerely appreciate your patience during these changes. January was busy with getting people settled and we are looking forward to a calmer more settled routine in February. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about these changes
Thank you to all those families who kept their ill children at home. By allowing them the time to rest at home they recovered quicker and did not pass the germs around. It is greatly appreciated! Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the health policies, they are in the best interest of the students and staff at the school and keeping everyone healthy. I really hope that these weird and unexplained bugs are on their way out and we can get back to our regular routines.
In years past, we have done a community project with the children in lieu of exchanging Valentine’s Day cards. This year we have chosen to work with MHC and the MH Health Foundation to support PJ’s for a Purpose. The money raised will be passed along to their initiative to transform a patient room on the pediatric floor into a magical nature-inspired woodland wonderland. This project will create a healing escape for a brave child undergoing cancer treatments. Our plan is, for a donation of $5 the children and staff can wear their PJ’s to school on Friday February 6th. Of course, any donation is greatly appreciated and will go towards helping them reach their $5000 goal.
During Valentine’s week (February 9-13), the staff will have Valentine’s Day crafts and activities for the children to take part in as well.
Everyone needs to bring boots, coat, snow pants, toque and mittens each day. It’s better to have them for outings. We will not risk taking a child out who is not properly dressed. Please make sure that your child has extra clothes at the school in case we do go out and has a fall or it’s melting again. Please ensure they have waterproof boots and a few pairs of extra socks.
If the temperature is -10C or colder we are not going outside. It is too cold for the children especially with the wind chill. Outdoor walks or playing in the yard will be decisions made quickly during the day and will reflect the weather and what we feel is suitable for the children.
We are closed on Monday February 16th, for Family Day; however, we are open the remainder of the week as all schools are closed for Teacher’s Convention.
We are also closed the following dates:
Friday April 3rd- Good Friday
Monday April 6th- Easter Monday
**School is open the rest of Easter week**
April 2026 (after Easter)-Summer and Fall registration opens for internal families.
Monday May 18th- Victoria Day
Graduation will be mid-June, date TBA once it is arranged
Wednesday July 1st–Canada Day
Summer School Closure August 3rd-7th
Income Tax receipts will be issued shortly. They are emailed out from our system. If there is an error such as address or name of who is receiving the receipt, please let me know and I can change it and resend it to you.
I am going to be collecting kindergarten information forms shortly. This will be beneficial to start the beginning stages for preschool registration for summer and fall. We will do our internal registration (including adding all our babies born to date for the toddler room in 2027) closer to April. If you have questions or want to set up a meeting, please ask. I am happy to help.
We will continue with Music on Mondays, Social Thinkers on Tuesday and kickboxing on Thursdays (as the weather allows), These activities make the weeks go by quickly.
Stay healthy and enjoy February!
